Infectious Diseases

Infectious diseases pose a significant threat to public health, particularly in underserved communities where access to healthcare resources may be limited. At the Center for Transformative Health, we are committed to leading the charge in infectious disease surveillance, education, and prevention. Our goal is to monitor the health of populations, detect potential outbreaks early, and respond effectively to prevent the spread of disease. Through comprehensive data collection and analysis, we are able to provide targeted interventions that protect the health of our communities. Our approach to combating infectious diseases is multi-dimensional. We utilize cutting-edge epidemiological tools to track and analyze disease patterns, enabling us to act swiftly in response to emerging threats. By combining rigorous surveillance with community education and outreach, we are able to educate the public and provide screenings and vaccinations to curb emerging infections in disadvantaged communities.

Areas of Focus:

  • COVID-19 continues to be a major global health issue, with new variants emerging and ongoing transmission in various communities. Addressing SARS-CoV-2 helps manage and mitigate the impact of the pandemic on public health.

  • The flu can lead to severe complications, particularly among high-risk groups such as the elderly, young children, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic health conditions. Effective prevention and treatment can reduce hospitalizations and severe outcomes.

  • Pandemics can disproportionately affect marginalized and underserved populations. By focusing on pandemic response, the center can work to address health disparities, ensure equitable access to care, and support vulnerable communities.

  • Tiger's Health Talk Series

Our commitment to infectious disease awareness is highlighted through the Tiger’s Health Talk Series, where we engage the community in weekly discussions on KTSU (90.9) radio station. These sessions cover a wide range of topics related to infectious diseases, offering listeners practical advice on prevention, early detection, and management. Whether discussing the latest information on COVID-19, flu prevention, or other infectious diseases, our goal is to keep the public informed and proactive about their health.

  • Diagnostic Testing/Screening

Timely testing and screening are crucial components of our infectious disease program. We offer PCR testing for COVID-19, Flu A, and Flu B, providing accurate and reliable results that help individuals take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones. Our testing services are designed to be accessible and convenient, particularly for those in disadvantaged communities.

  • Surveillance & Response

Effective surveillance is the cornerstone of our infectious disease efforts. We conduct COVID-19 contact tracing to help contain the spread of the virus, and we distribute personal protective equipment (PPE) to ensure that community members have the tools they need to stay safe. Additionally, our Covid Prevention Center Hotline serves as a vital resource for individuals seeking information, guidance, and support during the pandemic.
